Recently, the Department of Energy (Cornell University) held a competition as to who could create the most energy efficient and eco-friendly house. The ZED or Zero Energy Design gave their best which resulted to the making of the so-called Solar Decathlon House which can now be seen in New York.

A bathroom and a bedroom inside the Solar Decathlon have photovoltaic system as well as thermal system in order to provide the house the energy that it needs. As for the water supply, the Solar Decathlon uses water-efficient fixtures and a system that recycles rain and used water into a more usable form.

But unlike the other eco-friendly houses, the Solar Decathlon does not have a minimalist’s design. Instead, it has everything that you need in a modern and high-tech home. Now that’s what you call Living!

No, not the garden-like green house. By green, we mean an eco-friendly house. Because many people are now aware of the global warming and the effects that it bring, families are now going green. And this fight against global warming is now incorporated even in the house designs.

The key in creating a green house is the use of wood, and this must be the dominant material in building the house. It must also have spaces where you can view trees or even include trees as part of the rooms in the house. Some Green houses today even use solar panels or home wind turbines to have a more efficient energy that is not just eco-friendly but budget-friendly at the same time.
